Black Clouds
Every person has some bad habits.
Some bad habits may end up as addictions. Some of the common addictions are
smoking, drinking and gambling. It is extremely hard to get rid of these
addictions. Smoking is one of the most dangerous and deadly addictions in the
whole world these days. "Around 2,000 years ago, tobacco began to chewed
and smoked during cultural or religious ceremonies and events".
(www.cancercounsil.com). Now a day some people smoke tobacco all the time for
fun. People
who keep smoking may die due to this bad habit. People have smoking addictions
due to many different reasons, but the primary reasons are stress, peer pressure
and being overweight. Smoking addiction is taking many people's lives. Each
year, about 480,000 people in the United States die from illnesses related to
smoking. (www.cancer.org). Smoking has innumerable negative effects such as;
social, health and financial problems.
Smoking primarily affects the social
life of smokers. People who smoke all the time usually smell bad. Due to their
bad smell, some people might not like to talk to them. Smoking makes the
smokers and other people cough. It may make other people stay away from smokers.
Not everyone likes to have friends who smoke consistently. They might not even
like to go to their houses as they filled with smoke and ashtrays everywhere. People
also do not want to get close to the smokers because smokers clothes and hair
also smell bad. The smoking habit makes people socially unacceptable.
Smoking can cause uncountable health
complications. Because of smoking, some people have extremely serious health
issues. Many people are dying due to lung cancer these days. Smoking can also
cause mouth, throat and lung cancer. People who smoke a lot usually also have
coughing and sneezing problems. Smoking is also one of the big causes of
asthma, which makes it hard for people to breathe. Smokers often have tooth and
gum diseases. They might start losing teeth and have tooth pain. Therefore,
smoking can cause serious health complications.
Lastly, smoking is an expensive
habit. A smoker who smokes around one pack of cigarettes in a day spends about
seven dollars every day. Therefore, the average amount a smoker spends per
month is about 200 dollars. For average income people, it is about 10% of their
income. It impoverishes people through their whole life. Smoking may cause additional
expenses too such as; tooth painkillers, ashtrays for the car and home, expensive
beverage, beer or wine. As a result, cigarette companies are becoming richer
and richer and the people who smoke are becoming poorer and poorer every day.
For all these reasons, smoking has
become a severe problem in the world. Smoking can make smokers social life
miserable. It can make them physically sick and economically poor. Smokers know
that smoking is killing them, but it is very hard for them to quit smoking. If
anyone really wants to quit smoking then he could try to do other things to
divert his mind from smoking. Some options would be chewing gum or eating
sunflowers seeds. Another successful program to help people quit smoking is
hypnotism. Sometimes, replacing cigarettes with e-cigarettes also help quit
smoking . According to Aristotle, a Greek philosopher and scientist,
"Quitting smoking is rather a marathon than a sprint. It is not a one-time
attempt, but a longer effort."
